News Green Cllr Laura Edie meets local residents in Swanscombe

After the untimely passing of Cllr Peter Harman, a by-election has been called to fill his previous Greenhithe and Knockhall district, and Swanscombe and Greenhithe Kent county council seats.

Having previously worked with Peter, Laura knows the locality well, as one of the leaders of the Save Swanscombe Peninsula campaign, and being a strong advocate for community involvement in key decisions, she has also created the first ever citizens forum on congestion, to try and get Dartford moving in between now, and any major infrastructure decisions.

Parking, infrastructure, accountability, communication, green spaces, and community effectiveness, were all topics that came up throughout an insightful, wide-ranging, and engaging 'meet the candidates' hour.

We are aware that a lot of passionate and decent people represent our local communities across #Greenhithe, #Knockhall, #Swanscombe, and #Ebbsfleet, but we couldn't help be left with the question, "how effectively are these communities having their voice heard?"

Also how effectively are residents included in co-creating solutions to local problems, and unlocking value from opportunities?

As a grassroots party and movement, whilst we may benefit from a national party backbone, we are not whipped from central office like the two main parties, so we get to make our own decisions, with and for you locally.

More Greens on council = more diversity, more scrutiny, and an injection of creativity and vision that is too rarely missing from the established parties and local governance.
